New Four-Year Contract for NWT Physicians

Communiqués de presse

YELLOWKNIFE (May 8, 2012) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Northwest Territories Medical Association (NWTMA) have reached agreement on a contract for physician services in the Northwest Territories.  The previous contract between the GNWT and the NWTMA expired on March 31, 2012.

“I am pleased that the NWTMA and the government were able to work together to address outstanding issues and reach an agreement that is fair and reasonable,” said Dr. Peter Mcarthur, President of the NWTMA.

“The GNWT and the NWTMA worked together to achieve an agreement that is fiscally sustainable and provides stability for the delivery of health care in the Northwest Territories,” said Debbie DeLancey, Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services.  “This will enable us to proceed with key elements of reform in the health and social services system.”

The agreement, which runs for four years, provides the basis for compensation for general practitioners and specialist physicians in the NWT.
