HOUSTON (May 7, 2014) – The Northwest Territories’ vast energy resources and the political and economic advantages of devolution were profiled by Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister David Ramsay at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC)  in Houston, Texas this week.

During the conference, Minister Ramsay participated in a panel discussion that focused on future energy needs, in which he talked about the territory’s tremendous petroleum potential, the importance of developing resources in a responsible manner, the challenges of getting resources to market, and the additional responsibilities for the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) as a result of devolution.

“Conferences with a global reach such as the Offshore Technology Conference are ideal venues to showcase the NWT’s potential to supply a secure energy source to North American markets,” said Minister Ramsay. “People responded well to our message that the GNWT supports environmentally-sustainable petroleum development and exploration that provides long-term benefits to NWT residents and communities.”

The OTC is the world’s premiere event for the development of offshore resources in the areas of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection. The event attracts over 90,000 delegates from 120 countries.
