YELLOWKNIFE (July 10, 2012) – One of the Northwest Territories’ most promising industries received a boost to its online presence today as the NWT Film Commission officially launched its new website, www.nwtfilm.com.

The new website offers an attractive hub of information for film industry representatives looking to use the NWT as a film location – including permitting and registration information, regional contacts, and a locations photo library. It also showcases the services of the local film and media arts industry through the NWT Film Suppliers Guide – designed to provide a catalogue of local talent for producers looking to film in the territory.

“With the recent international success of NWT-filmed television programs, the industry is turning its gaze north” said Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) David Ramsay. “ITI is committed to supporting the healthy growth of the NWT film and media arts industry, and this new website is an excellent tool for promoting investment in an exciting and dynamic new sector."

In creating www.nwtfilm.com, the GNWT worked closely with the NWT Professional Media Association to ensure that it provides services tailored to the needs of the industry– a partnership that will continue in the future as the GNWT continues to provide funding and support for film in the territory.

“The launch of nwtfilm.com is an exciting step in the right direction of building our industry and one that has involved the hard work and dedication of many individuals within the GNWT and the territorial film industry,” said Jay Bulckaert, President of the NWT Professional Media Association. “The NWT Professional Media Association sees this new website, along with last year's announcement of funding for film productions, as the positive results of a collaborative relationship with the NWT Film Commission and we look forward to the continuation of this ongoing relationship to see how these new initiatives will bolster our already bustling, vibrant and professional film industry here in the NWT.”

The GNWT’s support for the film industry is an example of strengthening and diversifying our territory’s economy through maximizing opportunities for its residents, a key priority identified by the 17th Legislative Assembly.
