YELLOWKNIFE (March 1, 2013) – Thirty-one individuals were recognized for outstanding contributions to their communities and the territory at a ceremony marking the close of the Diamond Jubilee year in Yellowknife on February 28, 2013. Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals were presented by Commissioner George Tuccaro, Premier Bob McLeod and Senator for the Northwest Territories Nick Sibbeston. Speaker Jackie Jacobson and Members of the Legislative Assembly also participated in the event.

The Diamond Jubilee Medal was created by the Government of Canada to recognize the outstanding contributions of Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life. This medal program is one of the elements of the year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Over 140 NWT residents from across the territory received the Diamond Jubilee medal over the past year.
