March 16, 2011 - NWT youth will demonstrate a sampling of Inuit and Dene games to an international audience at the Los Angeles Times Travel & Adventure Show on March 19 and 20, 2011.

Based on the success of the Inuit and Dene games presentations at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the GNWT, in partnership with NWT Tourism, is sending four Aboriginal Youth Ambassadors to the Travel and Adventure Show. The Show draws over 20,000 international spectators and travel companies, and the traditional games performances will present them with a taste of the cultural experience awaiting them in the NWT.

“The Youth Ambassadors promoted our northern culture with pride and passion at the Olympics, and I know they will do the same at this Show,” said Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod. “Through the Youth Ambassadors program and our partnership with NWT Tourism, we have created another opportunity to build our future and maximize opportunities for both our youth and our territory.”

“We are pleased to be working with the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs to showcase Aboriginal culture and sport on the world stage in California,” said Ms. Jenni Bruce, Chairperson of NWT Tourism. “NWT Tourism not only strives to entice visitors to the NWT, but also to expose them to the spectacular culture and renowned friendliness of our territory and its people.”

Partnering with NWT Tourism to promote northern culture on the world stage is one way the Government of the Northwest Territories is maximizing opportunities and strengthening awareness of our northern identity and uniqueness by promoting our culture with a proud and unified voice.
