June 27, 2011 - Media are invited to attend an event being held in Dettah to address healthy eating, physical activity, healthy weights and obesity in children.
The event is being hosted by the Department of Health and Social Services and is part of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Childhood Obesity Engagement Strategy referred to as Our Health, Our Future: A National Dialogue on Healthy Weights.
The event will bring together representatives of the public and key stakeholder groups from across the NWT to discuss healthy choices and obesity.
The 2009 Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) data indicates that 29.2 per cent of youth between the ages of 12 and 17 are overweight or obese in the NWT – an increase of 5.1 per cent since 2005.
