YELLOWKNIFE (October 2, 2015) –Workshops designed to assist families going through relationship breakdowns will be expanded further to allow residents of Fort Smith, Norman Wells and Inuvik to access services effective October 8, 2015.
The Parenting After Separation workshop is designed to help parents make positive transitions both for their children and for themselves after a separation or divorce. In these free workshops, issues are discussed and information is provided by facilitators for options to reach constructive resolutions. Ultimately, the goal is to make a painful process easier for both children and parents.
“This expansion allows families in three more communities the ability to access these workshops”, said Minister David Ramsay. “We want to give parents the ability to make better decisions for themselves and their children and have a better understanding of their legal situation.”
Earlier this summer, the workshop expanded to the communities of Behchoko and Hay River. With this expansion and the addition of three new communities this month, a total of six communities are now able to take this workshop to help prepare families for their new situation.
Parents interested in participating in a free workshop are asked to call 867-873-2473 or toll-free 1-877-776-2838 or email: nwtpas@northwestel.net. More information is also available at the Justice website www.justice.gov.nt.ca and follow the links in “Children and families”.
The Parenting After Separation workshops continues on a regularly scheduled basis. Further expansion will be considered in the next fiscal year as we work to support healthy, strong individuals and families in the NWT.
