Parks Season in the NWT Opens Tomorrow

Communiqués de presse

YELLOWKNIFE (May 14, 2014) – Another spectacular camping season officially begins tomorrow when most Northwest Territories (NWT) campgrounds open their gates. Parks in the Beaufort Delta Region open June 1.

“We are proud to welcome visitors from around the world into our beautiful parks and campgrounds each year,” said Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) David Ramsay. “Our campgrounds have always been popular, and I encourage residents to get out, go further, and visit one or many of our 34 parks they haven’t explored before. Each one has something special to offer and a unique route to get you there.”

  1. Since last season, visitors will notice several upgrades to the parks. There is a new kitchen shelter situated closer to the waterfront at Fred Henne beach that is available to rent. At the Prelude Lake Territorial Park marina more parking spaces are available. At Nitainlaii and Gwich’in Territorial Parks in the Beaufort Delta Region, new hiking trails have been developed. A new shower building is available at Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park near Fort Smith.
  2. Last month ITI unveiled a new online booking system to make reserving campsites even quicker and easier. Over 1,000 online reservations were made the first day the booking site was open. To reserve a campsite visit: www.nwtparks.ca.

Supporting the growth of tourism through ongoing investment into NWT parks infrastructure helps create a strong, diversified territorial economy, one of the goals of the 17th Legislative Assembly.
