October 24, 2011 - On 30 Sept., 2011, Accreditation Canada advised that Stanton Territorial Health Authority has been granted Accreditation.
During the week of 11 Sept. 2011, an Accreditation Canada survey team of four met with staff, the Public Administrator and various stakeholders to review Stanton’s operations and compliance with accreditation standards. The accreditation process is designed to ensure participating health-care facilities are providing the best care possible. The accreditation program enables organizations to use accreditation as a framework for quality and a roadmap for improvement.
The survey team’s report indicates that Stanton is in compliance with 95 per cent of the applicable accreditation standards. Stanton met 1,961 of the 2,060 applicable standards. Of the 99 unmet standards, the majority are not considered, by Accreditation Canada, to be high priority.
“That doesn’t mean the work stops,” CEO Kay Lewis told the staff when presenting the results during an organization wide staff meeting, “but you are all to be congratulated for the considerable effort made to get us to this point. I am very proud of each and every one of you”
As part of the ongoing process of quality improvement, Stanton Territorial Health Authority has been participating in Accreditation Canada’s program for over 30 years. The last accreditation survey took place in September 2008.
Accreditation Canada (www.accreditation.ca) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that sets standards for quality and safety in health care and accredits health organizations in Canada and around the world. Organizations that are accredited by Accreditation Canada undergo a rigorous evaluation process. Following a comprehensive self-assessment, trained surveyors from accredited health organizations conduct an on-site survey to evaluate the organization’s performance against Accreditation Canada’s standards of excellence.
