November 7, 2011 - Today was the digital mammography machine’s first fully operational day at the Stanton Territorial Hospital. The digital mammography machine was purchased through the funds raised by the CIBC Run for Our Lives and the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation.
The CIBC Run for Our Lives is the NWT’s own breast cancer fundraiser, where money raised in the NWT stays in the NWT. Funds raised by the event are invested in breast health and breast cancer programs, services and equipment needed in the NWT, as well as national research.
“I’d like to congratulate the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation and thank all of the residents of the NWT who helped contribute in raising the funds needed to purchase this machine,” said Minister of Health and Social Services Tom Beaulieu. “We have an important responsibility for providing the people of the NWT with the health and social services they need. One of the key challenges for the 17th Assembly is figuring out a way to continue to fund the system, and make the necessary changes that will make it sustainable for the long term.”
To meet the demands and needs of residents of the Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut, the Stanton Territorial Hospital Foundation is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for patient care, equipment and major capital needs of the Stanton Territorial Hospital.
