YELLOWKNIFE (June 5, 2013) – Premier Bob McLeod will honour  individual employees, teams of employees and partners from outside the public service with Premier’s Awards for Excellence and Collaboration. Over 97 individuals will be honoured, including  the  recipient of the Dave Ramsden Career Excellence Award.

The Premier’s Awards acknowledge the exceptional work of individual employees and teams of employees.  Collaboration awards recognize the outstanding achievements of employees who work in partnership with individuals outside the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) to improve service for NWT residents.

“Innovative, engaged staff are essential in providing the best possible service to the people of the Northwest Territories,” said the Premier. “I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to recognize award recipients within the Government of the Northwest Territories and our partners.

Mr. Ian Legaree, Director of Sport, Recreation and Youth with the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs, will receive the Dave Ramsden Career Excellence Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievements of an individual with 20 or more years of experience in the GNWT public service.  Mr. Legaree has worked in the NWT and Nunavut for nearly 30 years in recreation, sport, community and leadership development and municipal affairs.  During his tenure he has played important roles in a wide range of national and international projects including the Arctic Winter Games, the Interprovincial Sport and Recreation Council, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Northwest Territories Program and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.
