YELLOWKNIFE (July 25, 2013) – The GNWT has been named a Top Ten Innovator for its new Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training. The Innovations in Diversity Awards are granted by the Profiles in Diversity Journal, a magazine that focuses on inclusion in the business, government, non-profit, education, and military sectors throughout North America.

“We are very proud of our Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training, and are pleased that it has been recognized alongside initiatives throughout Canada and the United States,” said Glen Abernethy, Minister of Human Resources. “The GNWT workplace is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming to all.”

The GNWT is committed to developing and maintaining a representative work force, and has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for 2013. Aboriginal Cultural Awareness training was launched on June 20, 2013, and is available to all GNWT employees and to the public on the Department of Human Resources’ website.

Profiles in Diversity Journal, now in its 14th year, is a bi-monthly print magazine published in Cleveland, Ohio. The focus of the Journal is senior leadership, best practices, workforce diversity strategies, and recognition of employee contribution.
