Communiqués de presse

YELLOWKNIFE (November 15, 2013) – The Government of the Northwest Territories is joining the Government of Canada and other provinces and territories in responding to the typhoon-devastated Philippines by stepping up to help the island nation in its efforts to care for survivors.

To assist with humanitarian relief efforts, the Government of the NWT will contribute $25,000 to the Canadian Red Cross.

“Our sincerest sympathies and prayers go out to the people of the Philippines and those who have lost friends or family from around the world,” said Premier Bob McLeod. “The Northwest Territories has a large Filipino community, and our thoughts are also with Northerners who have loved ones in the area.”

Relatives and friends seeking information on Canadian citizens believed to be in the affected areas should contact the Emergency Watch and Response Centre by calling 1-800-387-3124 or 613-996-8885 or e-mailing sos@international.gc.ca
