Department Information

The Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly is one of the three distinct and autonomous   branches of the Government of the Northwest Territories (Legislative, Executive and Judicial).  As such, it operates with autonomy and independence from Cabinet direction and the public service at large. This independence is critical to the mandate of the Legislative Assembly to scrutinize and approve legislation and budgets proposed by cabinet, monitor and critique the activities and performance of the executive branch and provide a forum for the exercise of responsible parliamentary democracy in the Northwest Territories.

Job Information

The Legislative Assembly is seeking an Official Languages / Public Outreach Coordinator to support the delivery of interpretation, translation, and public outreach services for Members of the Legislative Assembly and residents of the Northwest Territories (NWT). 

In this role, you will play a key part in:

  • Ensuring all Official Languages are accessible during the daily sessional work of the Legislative Assembly. 
  • Supporting the development, coordination, and delivery of outreach programs that connect the Legislative assembly with the public, schools, and communities across the NWT.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote understanding of the Legislative Assembly's processes, programs and services.

Key Qualifications:

  • A university degree in a specialized communication discipline plus three (3) years' experience working in a communications and public relations environment. 

Equivalencies:

  • A masters in a specialized communication discipline plus one (1) year experience working in a communications and public relations environment.
  • A university diploma in a specialized communication discipline plus five (5) years' experience working in a communications and public relations environment.
  • All other equivalences will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Public Relations
  • Journalism
  • Advertising
  • Media Studies
  • Corporate Communications 
  • Client Relations and Communication
  • Events Management
