The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.
Job Information
We are seeking a candidate with strong experience in preparing consolidated and non consolidated financial statements and working papers. Join the Government of the Northwest Territories as a Senior Financial Reporting Advisor and play a key role in shaping transparent financial reporting for our territory. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex financial statements, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and contribute to the continuous improvement of government accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of consolidated and non-consolidated Public Accounts, ensuring compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards.
- Coordinate with departments, boards, and agencies to gather and validate financial data.
- Develop and review audit working papers and liaise with the Office of the Auditor General during audits.
- Research and recommend improvements to financial reporting processes and respond to proposed accounting standards.
- Provide advice, training, and interpretation of accounting policies to government entities.
Key Skills and Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of accounting theory, GAAP, and Canadian public sector accounting standards.
- Proven experience in preparing complex consolidated financial statements and audit documentation.
- Strong communication skills to explain financial concepts clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and software (CaseWare experience is an asset).
Key Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized accounting designation, and three (3) years of accounting experience, including one (1) year of experience in the preparation of consolidated and nonconsolidated financial statements, and working papers.
Equivalencies
-Postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) from an accredited college/university in a relevant field (economics, commerce, mathematics, management accounting, business administration, etc) and three (3) years of accounting experience, including one (1) year of experience in the preparation of consolidated and nonconsolidated financial statements, and working papers.
- All other equivalencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $65.25 per hour to $77.95 per hour (approximately $127,238 - $152,003) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
