Job Information
As the Maintenance Enforcement Officer (MEO), you are responsible for administering and enforcing child and spousal support orders under the Maintenance Orders Enforcement Act.
Reporting to the Manager, NWT Maintenance Enforcement, you will manage a caseload involving the monitoring, collection, and enforcement of court-ordered support obligations.
You will exercise statutory authority delegated by the Administrator and uses discretion when determining appropriate investigative and enforcement actions. You must maintain an appointment as a Notary Public and work effectively with clients, legal counsel, employers, court staff, government departments, and maintenance enforcement programs in other jurisdictions.
You will deal with clients who may be under significant personal or financial stress and require professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to respond to urgent situations while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce court orders, agreements, and statutory obligations
- Conduct investigations and carry out enforcement and collection actions
- Perform financial and accounting duties related to case files
- Negotiate payments and assessments
- Deliver client service and respond to inquiries
- Complete administrative tasks related to case management
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong mediation, interviewing, and negotiation skills
- Ability to work effectively with clients under stress
- Ability to influence behaviour, support change, and resolve conflict
- Critical thinking and analytical skills to assess complex situations
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of court processes, legal terminology, and enforcement methods
- Understanding of accounting principles and financial data
- Ability to manage a high workload with multiple deadlines and frequent interruptions
Key Qualifications:
Diploma in public administration, business administration, social work or other human services field (psychology, criminal justice, sociology) along with two (2) years of relevant experience which includes working in a legal environment or financial collections.

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $49.68 per hour to $59.35 per hour (approximately $96876 - $115,733) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
