Job Information
The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) provides initial emergency medical response within the Behchoko corporate limits of the Tlicho region, including coverage along NWT Highway 3. Responsibilities include on-scene emergency care and ground transportation of patients to appropriate medical facilities in Behchoko or Yellowknife.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Health Operations/EMR Team Lead, the EMR operates in accordance with Tlicho Community Services Agency, GNWT, and EMR certification guidelines. Coverage extends year-round along Highway 3 from Fort Providence to Boundary Creek, with additional winter road coverage as required. The role involves direct impact on patient care, collaboration with health centre staff, participation in public safety and health promotion activities, and working a rotational, on-call schedule to provide 24-hour service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide initial on-scene emergency medical care and transport patients to the appropriate health centre or hospital
- Deliver public safety education and health promotion programs to residents of the Tlicho region
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs on emergency vehicles and related equipment
- Assist with the delivery of health and social programs within the Tlicho region
- Perform other related duties as required
Key Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Responder course from a recognized provincial or territorial authority
- Valid Class 4 driver's license and ability to pass a criminal record check
- Health Care Provider CPR certification (required within six months of hire)
- Ability to speak and understand Tlicho is an asset
- Good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the EMR role
Equivalencies:
- Grade 11, completion of an Emergency Medical Responder course from a recognized provincial or territorial authority, one year of EMR experience, and a valid Class 4 driver's license
- Grade 10, completion of an Emergency Medical Responder course from a recognized provincial or territorial authority, two years of EMR experience, and a valid Class 4 driver's license

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $42.17 per hour to $50.36 per hour plus a pro-rated annual Northern Allowance of $2.87 per hour.
