As an Occupational Health and Safety Nurse (OHN), you will provide high-quality occupational health services that promote safety and maintain the highest standard of care. You will support staff in meeting safety standards, conducting medical assessments, and delivering care within your scope of practice.
Key Responsibilities
Client Care
- Conduct health assessments (immunizations, TB, musculoskeletal, overall wellness).
- Provide immunizations (including annual influenza), first aid, TB testing, exposure assessments, and follow-up.
- Counsel employees on health issues (e.g., substance use, smoking cessation) and refer to EFAP or other resources.
- Assess fitness to return to work and maintain confidential health records.
- Deliver health and safety education and perform basic nursing skills (vitals, injections, charting).
Collaboration & Coordination
- Manage and coordinate communicable disease surveillance, including after-hours response.
- Develop and deliver health promotion initiatives, workshops, and training programs.
- Participate in incident investigations, occupational health assessments, and hazard assessments.
- Provide clinical expertise for OHS program development and implementation.
- Advise supervisors/managers on staff compliance with OHS policies and programs.
Leadership
- Model NTHSSA values and GNWT Code of Conduct.
- Mentor, teach, and coach staff, students, and other professionals.
- Advise management on OHS clinical needs and safe workplace practices.
- Stay current with health and safety legislation and promote compliance across NTHSSA.
Research & Quality Improvement
- Support evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collect and analyze data, generate reports, and provide recommendations for improving staff safety.
To be successful in this role, typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, and a minimum of three (3) years work-related experience in a health or social services discipline. Preference will be given to a candidate with experience in Occupational Health Nursing, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or Infection Control Nursing, or an equivalent combination of experience and education in a directly related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Labour Market Supplement
The successful incumbent will receive a $10,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $10,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months. This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $54.44 per hour to $65.03 per hour (approximately $106,158 - $126,809.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
