The Beaufort-Delta Region of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority invites applications for the position of Laboratory Technologist, located at the Inuvik Regional Hospital.


Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Laboratory Technologist is responsible for the collection, analysis, and interpretation of a broad range of biological and environmental samples in accordance with recognized international laboratory standards and established territorial policies. The incumbent performs testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, immunohematology, basic microbiology, water testing, and specimen collection/processing.


Working in a northern regional hospital environment without an on-site Pathologist, the Laboratory Technologist exercises a high degree of professional judgment and autonomy. Pathology services are provided through an external consultant, requiring strong technical competence and the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to abnormal or critical findings.
The Laboratory processes approximately 20,000 samples annually and provides services to seven Community Health Centers, regional public health and environmental health programs, and external partners including industry and government departments. Accurate and timely laboratory results are essential to supporting diagnosis, treatment, disease management, and public health initiatives across the Beaufort-Delta Region.


Key Responsibilities 
¿    Analyze biological samples using international laboratory standards to support disease diagnosis and management.
¿    Perform, record, and monitor Quality Control (QC) to ensure accurate and reliable results.
¿    Collect and test patient specimens as part of the healthcare team.
¿    Collect and prepare specimens for dispatch.
¿    Assist with result interpretation in the absence of a Pathologist, supporting patient care and public health.
¿    Maintain complex laboratory equipment to reduce downtime and extend lifespan.
¿    Serve as a Laboratory Medicine resource to uphold procedures and promote professional awareness.


To be successful in this role, typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
This level of knowledge is typically acquired through the successful completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology Program at a diploma/degree level. Certification and registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Sciences as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist is a requirement.

Labour Market Supplement

The successful incumbent will receive a $11,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $11,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months.   This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.
