The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

In this position, you will lead and manage all aspects of grade 7-12 school programs across the Northwest Territories, including curriculum development, student assessment, inclusive schooling, safe schools, and Indigenous language instruction. You will work collaboratively with educators, communities, and partners to ensure high-quality, culturally-informed education that meets the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of 7-12 curriculum and senior high school programming.
  • Support inclusive schooling, student support, safe schools, and Indigenous language programs.
  • Lead workshops, training, and professional development for staff and educators.
  • Manage human and financial resources, including supervising staff and monitoring budgets up to $500,000.
  • Collaborate with government departments, Indigenous governments, and education bodies across the NWT and other Canadian jurisdictions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Education and five (5) years relevant experience, including at least 1 year in management or supervisory roles.
  • Additional requirements: Eligibility for NWT teacher certification.
  • Equivalencies: 

A Master's Degree in Education and 3 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of one (1) year of management and/or supervisory experience.

A Degree in Education: A Bachelor's Degree in education

Relevant experience refers to: Experience working in a JK-12 educational setting
