Job Information

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) provides most health and social services across the NWT, serving about 43,000 people, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents. While Hay River and Tlicho regions operate separately, they follow NTHSSA standards through service agreements. The NTHSSA oversees clinical standards and is working toward a fully integrated health system.
The Territorial Nurse Educator, Mental Health & Substance Use, based in Yellowknife, is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating clinical education for staff providing mental health and addictions care. This includes training in areas like suicide prevention, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented practice. The role ensures programs are culturally appropriate, incorporate Northern content, and meet territorial standards. The Educator works with regional teams, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies, and may travel to communities to support workforce development across the NWT.


Key Responsibilities 
-    Develop and deliver clinical education programs for nurses and mental health & substance use staff across the NWT.
-    Coordinate specialty training for nursing, health professionals and mental health & substance use staff working in a variety of clinical areas.
-    In conjunction with the Mental Health & Community Wellness team, Health Services Team, and Department of Health & Social Services, contribute to the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing and community counselling conferences.
-    Provide leadership for the development or amendment of mental health and substance use policies and procedures at the Territorial and Regional levels.
 

Qualifications 
-    Completion of a Bachelor-s Degree in nursing and a minimum of five (5) years work-related experience in a Mental Health and/or Substance Use setting.

Labour Market Supplement

The successful incumbent will receive a $10,000 supplement upon hire and an additional $10,000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months.   This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions

The salary range for this position is from $56.99 per hour to $68.06 per hour (approximately $111,131 - $132,717.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
