Job Information
Located in Yellowknife and reporting to the Manager of Programs, Training and Development, as one of two Training Officers, you will be responsible for the standardized development, delivery, and evaluation of training for community and facility corrections staff, ensuring compliance with legislation, departmental operations and standards, and supporting the Vision, Mission and Values statement of the Corrections Service. You will work 40% at the North Slave Correctional Centre and 60% at Corrections headquarters. As the Training Officer, you will coordinate and support service-wide training initiatives and act as a Peace Officer while on duty.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will supervise and evaluate up to 10 instructors and 25 mentors, while developing and integrating training materials, competencies, and policy, and oversee multiple ongoing projects. It ensures departmental standards through effective training, evaluation, and staff development, directly impacting approximately 300 employees and all correctional staff training programs and retention. You will also maintain the training stores inventory.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven understanding of corrections policies, procedures and security operations.
- Proven knowledge and application of practical corrections techniques with the ability to assess sound judgment exercised by staff in the application (use of restraints, non-violent crisis intervention, Suicide Intervention).
- Knowledge of Corrections Training Syllabus.
- Proven facilitation and curriculum development skills.
- Functional knowledge of training technology (digital cameras, projectors, etc.).
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
- Diploma in Education or Social Science plus three years of direct Corrections operations experience, as well as a demonstrated ability to plan and deliver effective training.
- Class 5 driver's license.
