The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information
The Stationary Engineer Trainee supports the Facility & Maintenance Coordinator by assisting in the operation, maintenance and repair of the plumbing, heating, ventilating and domestic water supply systems in GNWT-owned buildings in the Hay River area. In addition will assist with annual boiler inspections and teardowns, and respond to plumbing, heating and ventilation repair requests, and assist department tradespeople in the maintenance and repairs. This will fulfill work experience requirements towards certification as a 5th Class Stationary Engineer.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to use a computer.
- Ability to undertake self-study twice a week for half days, in the Power Engineering Computer Managed Learning (CML) modules with NAIT, SAIT, or another approved technical institution.
- Ability to commit to actively upholding and consistently practicing personal diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace.
These are typically attained by;
Completion of Grade 10 Science, English and Math.
Additional requirements;
- A class 5 drivers license
- Continued employment as a trainee is conditional upon successful completion of the required hours of experience, coursework and exams for each level in the Power Engineering Computer Managed Learning (CML) modules from an Alberta-based technological institute (e.g. NAIT).

Salary Information
The salary range for this position is from $42.17 per hour to $50.36 per hour (approximately $82,232 - $98,202) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $4,538.
