Department Information

The Department of Finance has the mandate to provide leadership and direction to the public service in all areas of finance and human resource management. This mandate includes negotiating major financial arrangements with the federal government, providing analysis and advice to the Financial Management Board, and ensuring that financial and information resources are managed effectively, efficiently and economically. This mandate also includes the recruitment and retention of a competent public service that is representative of the people it serves and the development of programs and services that effectively serve the human resource needs of the public service.

Job Information

The Workforce Diversity Officer plays a key role in shaping a diverse, inclusive public service that reflects the people it serves. Working across departments, you will lead initiatives that strengthen recruitment, retention, and advancement of underrepresented groups, while providing strategic advice to senior leaders on diversity and inclusion. You will influence meaningful change by developing and implementing GNWT-wide diversity strategies, partnering with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring programs are effective, measurable, and impactful. This role is ideal for you if you bring strong strategic thinking, communication, and analytical skills, a solid understanding of diversity and human resource best practices, and a commitment to fostering inclusive, culturally aware workplaces.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the development and implementation of workforce diversity strategies, policies, and programs
- Provide expert advice to senior management on inclusive recruitment, retention, and advancement practices
- Analyze workforce data and trends to identify gaps and recommend evidence-based solutions
- Build partnerships with departments, communities, and organizations to advance diversity initiatives
- Design and deliver training, communications, and resources that promote inclusion and cultural awareness

Key Qualifications:

- A relevant Bachelor Degree coupled with 2 years' experience in a relevant field.


Equivalencies:

- A relevant college/university diploma couples with 4 years' experience in a relevant field. 
- A relevant masters degree coupled with 1 year experience in a relevant field. 
- A high school diploma coupled with 6 years' experience in a relevant field.


Relevant education fields may include, but are not limited to, Human Resources, Social Sciences and Business Administration.

Examples of relevant work experience include work in human resources, diversity and inclusion, policy development, or strategic program development.
