Job Information

The Worker's Safety and Compensation's (WSCC) vision is to eliminate workplace diseases and injuries.

 

With offices in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and Iqaluit, Nunavut, the WSCC is the only workers' compensation organization in Canada that provides services to employers, injured workers, and the public across more than one province or territory. With endless opportunities to explore our spectacular land and rich culture, this position can be in either Yellowknife or Iqaluit, depending on which beautiful northern capital you would like to call home.

 

Reporting to the Governance Council of the WSCC, the President is accountable for providing leadership and strategic direction and stewarding the effective and efficient provision of services under the Workers Compensation Acts, Safety Acts, Explosives Use Acts and the Mine Health and Safety Acts of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

You will make a difference at the WSCC by:

 

  • Providing leadership in all areas of the organization, with particular focus on safety regulation and prevention of workplace diseases and injury, injured workers' claims management, and employer assessments.
  • Providing quality advice and support to the Governance Council in strategic planning, program, and policy development.
  • Creating an environment where innovation and continuous improvement of services flourishes.
  • Fostering a working environment in relation to our organizational values.
  • Embracing the indigenous cultures of the north and creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. 
  • Developing effective relationships with workers, employers, and governments.
  • Evaluating success in achieving the WSCC's plans, strategies, policies, programs and services, and identify and initiate action for change as required.

What you bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated ability to execute long-range strategic directions, managing vision & purpose, identifying emerging trends, and guiding change initiatives.
  • An ability to gain the trust and confidence of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.
  • Excellent communication skills with a professional approach and demeanor and the ability and interest in maintaining an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations.
  • An ability to make good and timely decisions to move the organization forward.

Your Education and Professional Experience:

 

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of leadership experience in progressively more responsible positions, including a minimum of five (5) years executive level experience in a related industry.
  • A university degree in a related discipline; a master's degree is considered an asset.
  • Solid understanding of both the worker's compensation and workplace safety industries.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.
