Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Justice is to administer justice, including policing, community justice, victims services and corrections in the Northwest Territories. This mandate will be carried out in a manner which respects community and indigenous values and encourages communities to assume increasing responsibilities.

Job Information

Reporting to the Manager, Community Justice Projects and Programs, as the Coordinator, Community Justice Projects and Programs, you will implement and support community justice initiatives, including the Community Safety Strategy, across 33 communities. You will provide program oversight and operational support by coordinating contribution agreements, monitoring program delivery, preparing information to support divisional decision-making, and helping ensure program objectives, deliverables, and financial responsibilities are achieved.

You will serve as the primary liaison and support resource for Community Justice Committees and Coordinators, providing guidance and assistance to strengthen community-based justice programming. You will lead the development and implementation of specialized program options and community safety initiatives, while coordinating capacity-building activities, training programs, conferences, research, and data collection to support effective program delivery and continuous improvement of community justice services.

Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the provision of community justice programs and projects for the division. 
- Provides training and resource support to community justice practitioners in the jurisdiction.

Knowledge and Skills
- Sound knowledge of program and project development, implementation and evaluation.
- Ability to conduct research through a variety of methods, Including the ability to compile data and information and organize it into effective reporting formats.
- Knowledge of territorial and federal legislations including Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Victims of Crime Act, Child and Family Services Act.
- A good understanding of community justice models and best practices.
- An ability to organize, prepare and participate in workshops and meetings, including preparing and delivering presentations as well as written materials to support program communication needs.
- Ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities and governments.

Key Qualifications
Completion of a degree in a social science (criminology, psychology, social work, social justice and community, community and justice services, criminal justice, indigenous justice) or a related discipline (indigenous studies, community development) and 3 years practical experience in working in a community development and/or within the community justice field,

OR;

Completion of a diploma in a social science (criminology, psychology, social work, social justice and community, community and justice services, criminal justice, indigenous justice) or a related discipline (indigenous studies, community development) and 5 years practical experience in working in a community development and/or within the community justice field,

OR;

7 years of directly related experience.
