Job Information

The Educator, Child Day Care (Educator) is responsible for planning and delivering a high-quality early learning program in accordance with established policies, licensing requirements, and early childhood education best practices. The Educator creates a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. This includes planning and implementing age-appropriate activities, supervising children at all times, and supporting their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and cultural development.

Educators must remain attentive and responsive throughout the day, using sound judgment and maintaining a high level of awareness to ensure the safety and well-being of every child. The role requires continuous observation, interaction, and the ability to recognize and respond to children's individual needs and potential safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Use the land, natural materials, and the surrounding environment as an extension of the classroom to support learning through play and exploration.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs and activities that promote children's physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and language development.
  • Guide and support children in developing age-appropriate self-help skills, including eating, dressing, and toileting.
  • Prepare and provide nutritious snacks and lunches in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Incorporate Dënes¿¿¿iné language, stories, songs, traditions, and cultural practices into daily programming.
  • Observe children's progress and communicate effectively with families regarding their development and well-being.

Key Qualifications:

  • The completion of High School and one (1) year of child care experience.

Additional Requirements: 

  • The completion of the NWT Essentials training is mandatory within 6 months of hire.
  • Current First Aid and infant/child CPR certifications 
  • Up-to-date immunizations 
  • Tuberculosis screening
