Job Information

The Senior Finance Officer/Local Housing Organizations Analyst position is located in the Housing NWT's South District Office in Hay River and reports to the District Controller. The duties of the position have an impact on the District Office, Local Housing Organizations, Contractors and Individual Corporation Clients and Tenants in the South Slave District as well as the year-end consolidated audit cycle of the Housing NWT. The SFO/LHO Analyst works within an established accountability framework to ensure the integrity of financial controls and processes in accordance with GNWT Acts and Regulations and in particular the Financial Administration Act, Financial Administration Manual, the Housing Northwest Territories Act and Societies Act. 

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of accounting theory, generally accepted accounting principles, accounting / bookkeeping practices, and financial administration.
  • Knowledge and ability to analyze and interpret legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Financial management and administration skills.
  • Auditing skills sufficient to identify financial control problems.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a diverse team of individuals and multi-disciplinary professionals.

Typically attained by

The completion of a degree in Accounting and two years of relevant experience.

Additional Requirements - Actively registration in and completing the Professional Education Program (PEP) towards the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation.

Equivalencies may include; 

  • The completion of a masters degree in Accounting and one years of relevant experience. Actively registration in and completing the Professional Education Program (PEP) towards the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation.
  • The completion of a degree with 2 years of relevant experience and registered in Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Preparatory courses.
