Job Information

The Professional Development Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the design, development, monitoring, and evaluation of territory-wide professional development activities to meet departmental, educational and instructional objectives, to ensure that children and youth in the Northwest Territories receive a high quality of education that meets their needs. This position is also responsible for ensuring professional development and instructional activities are of high quality, consistent with departmental goals, objectives, philosophies and standards, and meet identified instructional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the development, implementation, in-service and evaluation of Professional Development (PD) and instructional improvement programs and activities for NWT administrators and educators. 
  • Advise education bodies and other groups/agencies with respect to JK-12 Education System Services and departmental priorities.

Key Qualifications 

  • A Degree in Education or related field, and three (3) years of relevant experience, including one (1) year of teaching experience within a JK-12 Northern classroom 

Relevant education may include but is not limited to:   

  • A degree in Adult Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Learning and Development (Workplace learning) Human resource development, Training and Development, Organizational Leadership or Community Development.

Relevant experience may include but is not limited to:

  • Designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating professional learning or training programs. 
  • Experience delivering curriculum and assessment within a JK-12 school environment.
  • Adult education, workplace learning, or instructional design. 
  • Curriculum development and implementation. 
  • Facilitating workshops, conferences, communities of practice, or leadership development programs. 
  • Educational program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
