Job Information

Are you interested in joining the ECC Senior Management Team in Yellowknife to provide leadership, strategic direction and oversight to protect, conserve and enhance the Northwest Territories' (NWT) air, land and water? This dynamic leadership role includes the following program areas; hazardous waste; spill response and coordination; contaminated sites regulatory; contaminated sites management including assessment, remediation and monitoring; Giant Mine Remediation Project; and waste reduction, diversion, residual waste management, and greening government.

You will also have the opportunity to identify collaboration and engagement opportunities with internal and external stakeholders in the creation of new approaches and innovative solutions.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and expertise in engineering and science principles and policies that are used to manage waste and contaminated sites. Some of the key qualifications include:

  • Strong leadership, negotiation and strategic skills. 
  • Expert facilitation, communication and presentation abilities.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of northern air, land, and water management principles and issues. 
  • A graduate degree in a relevant engineering, geoscience or science discipline with a minimum of 10 years of progressive, directly related experience, at least seven years of which have been in a managerial position.
  • Relevant engineering disciplines include environmental, chemical, and mining; relevant geoscience disciplines include geology, geochemistry, and hydrogeology; and relevant science disciplines include environmental science and chemistry.
  • Directly related experience include the following: contaminated sites assessment, remediation and monitoring; spill response; waste reduction, diversion and waste management (including hazardous waste); and air quality.
  • Equivalencies include:
    • A bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering, geoscience or science discipline with a minimum of 12 years of progressive, directly related experience, at least seven years of which have been in a managerial position.
    • A PhD in a relevant engineering, geoscience or science discipline with a minimum of 8 years of progressive, directly related experience, at least seven years of which have been in a managerial position.

The salary range for this position is from $73.31 per hour to $104.73 per hour (approximately $142,955 - $204,224.) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $3,700.
