In the event that a traditional harvester in the Northwest Territories suffers loss or damage to equipment or assets because of a natural disaster, compensation may be available.

Overview

This program provides compensation to traditional harvesters in the Northwest Territories who have suffered loss or damage to equipment or assets because of a natural disaster.

This program does not compensate for losses incurred from wildfire and cannot be used to cover losses arising from poor judgment, carelessness or acts of vandalism.

Funding Available

The maximum compensation is $4,500.

Deadline

This funding is available any time there is a disaster.

Eligibility

To qualify for assistance, harvesters must possess a General Hunting Licence and/or be a land claim beneficiary, be actively engaged in renewable resource harvesting activities, and prove that their harvesting provides for at least 25 per cent of their gross annual income.
