The Tuktoyatuk Peninsula herd range is in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. It has been suggested that this herd moved back into the area once a domestic reindeer herd was moved off the peninsula. It is not known how many animals in this herd are feral reindeer or hybrids.

Recent population estimates of the Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula herd are:

2006               3,000 animals

2009               2,800 animals

2012               2,200 animals      

2015               1,900 animals

2018               1,500 animals

2021               3,073 animals

2024               2,800 animals

All resident, outfitted and commercial harvest has been suspended since 2006.

There are no restrictions on the Inuvialuit harvest of the herd.

There is no hunting in the Tuktoyaktuk Peninsula area from April 1 to June 15 to help ensure there is no accidental harvest of the Cape Bathurst herd during its migration.
