Wally Schumann: Mandate Successes - Developing our Renewable Resources

Mr. Speaker, strong economies must encourage economic diversity.

While our economy relies on the resource sector as its foundation, our government has committed to fostering an economic environment in which small business can grow and thrive.

Today I would like to highlight some of the commitments that have been met by the ongoing work of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment.

Louis Sebert: Preventing and Reducing Family Violence

Mr. Speaker, we want NWT residents to thrive in a strong and healthy society; and there is no place in strong and healthy homes for family violence. In response to this goal, our government made a mandate commitment to strengthen initiatives and partnerships to prevent and respond to family violence. By working together we have made real progress in creating and supporting the programs that will help us achieve healthier communities and families.

Mr. Speaker, our government has committed in its mandate to supporting exploration and the mining sector. It is the lifeblood of our economy. Our people and businesses are innovative, self-sufficient and resilient, and want to do their part to contribute to a strong Northwest Territories. We need the kind of well-paying, long term jobs that come with sustainable economic development, and our government is working towards economic self-determination for all NWT residents.

Glen Abernethy: Continuing Care Services Action Plan

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to announce that later today, I will be tabling the Continuing Care Services Action Plan.

The Continuing Care Services Action Plan builds on the seven priorities of the 2014 Strategic Framework, Our Elders: Our Communities, and on our mandate commitment to take action so that NWT Seniors can age in place and live in their own homes and communities for as long possible.

We are also committed to ensuring that adequate supports are available for those who can no longer do so.

Robert C. McLeod: Update On NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework

Delivered on September 25, 2017

Mr. Speaker, climate change is an issue of serious concern for this government and the people of the Northwest Territories. Our government has made a commitment in its mandate to develop a territorial climate change strategic framework.

I am pleased to provide Members with an update on the development of this framework, intended to guide our efforts on climate change from 2018 to 2030.
