Today the GNWT announced the recipients of the 2022 Literacy Awards, which honour the literacy achievements of youth and adult learners, exceptional educators, and organizations and businesses across the territory.
The 2022 recipients are:
- Outstanding Educator – Diana Gargan and Georgina Franki
- Second Language Learner – Bertha Drygeese
- Council of the Federation Literacy Award – Western Arctic Youth Collective

Literacy is at the core of what it means to be a successful person at home, at school, and at work. In the NWT, literacy is seen as a lifelong process and is encouraged in all 11 official languages.
As we celebrate the 2022 recipients, consider nominating a deserving individual, organization or business for the 2023 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.
To nominate someone fill out the nomination form and email it to nwtliteracy_awards@gov.nt.ca by July 6, 2023. You must include two email references and/or letters of support. Additional supporting material, such as photographs, audio-visuals, publications and products, are welcome but not necessary.
