Aklavik residents receive the Diamond Jubilee Medal

AKLAVIK  (October 16, 2012) – Four Aklavik residents were honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on Friday.

Premier McLeod presented medals to:

  • Barbara Archie

  • Mary Kendi

  • Jerry (Dean) McLeod

  • Order of Canada Recipient Nellie Cournoyea

  •  

The President of the Gwich’in Tribal Council, Robert Alexie Jr. and the Chair and CEO of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, Nellie Cournoyea also took part in the presentations, as did Alfred Moses, MLA Boot Lake; Robert C. McLeod, MLA Inuvik Twin Lakes; and Frederick (Sonny) Blake, MLA Mackenzie Delta.

This commemorative medal has been created by the Government of Canada to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of 60,000 deserving Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life.  This medal program is one of the elements of the year-long Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and a list of NWT recipients is available on the GNWT’s website.
