The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is looking for five individuals to join the Northwest Territories (NWT) Social Assistance Appeal Board for four-year terms starting March 27, 2023.
The Department of Education, Culture and Employment is responsible for the delivery of the Income Assistance (IA) program. The IA program provides financial assistance to residents who are 19 years of age and older to assist with their basic and enhanced needs, in accordance with the Social Assistance Act (Act) and Income Assistance Regulations. There are cases where an applicant is denied benefits under the IA program, at which time they can appeal the decision if they feel the Act and/or Regulations were not applied correctly.
The NWT Social Assistance Appeal Board is the second level of appeal and established to hear appeals arising out of decisions made by the Social Assistance Appeal Committee in respect to the IA program. The Board may affirm, reverse or vary a decision according to applicable legislation, policies and procedures. Remuneration is provided.
