The Government of the Northwest Territories is offering funding to organizations to help families get out on the land. The program is designed to help offset the costs of participating in land-based experiences like camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and traditional activities, so more Northerners can get involved.
Any NWT Indigenous government, Indigenous organization, community government or not-for-profit association can apply for funding to support their communities. Individuals cannot apply for this program directly but can approach eligible organizations in their community such as their First Nation’s office. Successful applicants will receive a one-time contribution of up to $10,000 to help support families who may not have the resources for on the land activities.
This program is intended to support families that have any two or more people who play an important role in each other’s lives. All family combinations, including 2SLGBTQIPA+ families, single-parent families and multigenerational families, are eligible.
Applications are open from July 1, 2025 - August 15, 2025. To learn more visit: Take a Family on the Land.
