The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the 2025 Trapper Mentorship Program. Started in 2022, this program helps NWT residents learn how to trap by pairing them with experienced trappers who teach them important skills. Successful new trappers will get a starter kit worth about $1500, while mentors will receive $2000 to help cover their costs.
To apply, you must be over 18, live in the NWT during the trapping season, and either have a land claim right to harvest or hold a General Harvesters Licence (or be able to get one). Priority will be given to new trappers with limited experience and to mentors with significant trapping knowledge experience.
Eligible candidates can fill out the application form and letter of support (template included in the application) and submit the completed forms to their regional office or email at ontheland@gov.nt.ca.
Application Deadline: October 6, 2025
