Today the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) announced that Renée Fougère will be appointed as the Public Trustee of the Northwest Territories, effective August 28, 2023.  Ms. Fougère takes over from Mr. Jeremy Walsh who served in the position for one year.

The Public Trustee serves a wide range of clients and protects and manages the legal and financial interests of vulnerable residents of the Northwest Territories.  The Public Trustee manages property for children, and those who have become incapable of handling their financial affairs, and also administers estates of deceased persons when there is no one else to do so.

Ms. Fougère is an active member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories specializing in family law. She is bilingual in French and English and has served as a panel lawyer for the Northwest Territories Legal Aid Commission.
