Aurora College Welcomes New President

FORT SMITH (December 5, 2012) – Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Jackson Lafferty and Sydney O’Sullivan, Chair of the Board of Governors of Aurora College, announced today that Ms. Jane Arychuk has accepted the position of President, Aurora College effective December 1, 2012.

“We are very pleased to welcome Ms. Arychuk to such an important leadership position in the North,” said Minister Lafferty. “As President of Aurora College, she will have the opportunity to use her experience to the benefit of all Northerners as we work together to address the training and educational challenges of the future.”

Working in the field of education in the Northwest Territories for the last 30 years, Ms. Arychuk spent 23 years as a community educator and principal in Fort Providence.  For the past seven years she worked as the Campus Director of Yellowknife North Slave Campus and as the Vice President of Community and Extensions at Aurora College.  Since July 2012, Jane has been the Interim President of Aurora College.

“Aurora College is proud to announce Ms. Arychuk in her new capacity as President,” said Board Chair Sydney O’Sullivan. “Her previous experience in the field of education and with the College will be a significant asset and the Board looks forward to working with her in advancing post-secondary education in the NWT.”

Ms. Arychuk received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto and is currently near completion of a Masters of Educational Administration degree from Saint Francis Xavier University.  She is a strong volunteer and one of the members of the inaugural planning committee of the Honour Ceremony for Aboriginal Graduates.  She is also on the Special Olympics NWT board and has been the president for the last four years, as well as serving on the board for the Yellowknife Association of Community Living for six years.

Ms. Arychuk’s education, work experience, background and knowledge of the North and her commitment to working with a broad range of partners on adult and post-secondary education and training in the Northwest Territories are all valuable assets to Aurora College.
