YELLOWKNIFE (December 11, 2017) – Residents of the Northwest Territories (NWT) now have the option to display an 'X' in the sex section of driver's licence and identification cards issued by the Department of Infrastructure.

This change helps to ensure services offered by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) are inclusive and respectful of transgender, two-spirit, intersex, and non-binary residents.

YELLOWKNIFE (NOVEMBER 24, 2017) – Minister of Justice Louis Sebert released the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) proposed plan for legalizing cannabis in the NWT today. This is an important step in designing a system that will provide controlled access to a safe supply of recreational cannabis for NWT residents in order to maintain the health and safety of residents and communities across the North.

Last week I issued a public red alert calling for a national debate about the future of the Northwest Territories. This call was based on continuing questions the Government of the Northwest Territories has concerning federal plans for the North and their commitment to investing meaningfully in its ongoing social and economic development in a strategic and coordinated way.

The new brand will be formally launched Friday evening at the NWT Film Commission gala celebrating the 11th Annual Yellowknife’s International Film Festival.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 25, 2017) – Tourism numbers reached record heights in the Northwest Territories (NWT) in 2016-17. For the first time, visitor spending surpassed the $200 million mark and over 100,000 visitors travelled to the NWT.

The results bode well for the overall goal of Tourism 2020, the GNWT’s five year strategy for tourism development, which seeks to increase the value of the NWT tourism industry to $207 million annually by 2021.
