The Government of the Northwest Territories advises that a new vehicle pull-out has opened adjacent to the Detah ice road.


The new pull-out is located approximately half way along the 6.3 kilometre ice road between Yellowknife and Detah.

Residents and tourists will benefit from the pull-out by having the option of safely stopping to enjoy winter activities, such as aurora borealis viewing. 

The attached map illustrates the layout of the pull-out, as well as the location of nearby signs.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), in partnership with the Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA) released details today on the $9.12 million in new funding for AEA over the next four years, as well as announced changes to funding for solar projects in hydropower communities across the NWT.

Both announcements are in response to the Arctic Energy Alliance Program and Service Review that was commissioned last year.

The GNWT recognizes that NWT residents are concerned about the impacts of climate change and is committed to a government-wide approach that takes into account northern energy demands and the cost of living, while reflecting international and national commitments to lower greenhouse gas emissions, exploring options for carbon pricing systems, and capturing local alternatives.

YELLOWKNIFE (April 30, 2018) - The Department of Infrastructure advises that on May 1, 2018 the Deh Cho Bridge toll rates will be increased in accordance with the NWT Consumer Price Index.  

Toll rates will be increasing by 1.2 per cent. A copy of the amended rates can be found attached to this email.

Public Service Announcement

INUVIK (February 21, 2018) – The Department of Infrastructure advises that the Inuvik Access Road (Hospital Hill) will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, beginning Thursday, February 22, 2018 for up to two months.

A full closure is required as crews will be excavating the road to replace a culvert, allowing for improved drainage and a smoother drive. All traffic will be detoured via the Marine Bypass Road/Navy Road as there is no detour around the immediate site.

YELLOWKNIFE (December 11, 2017) – Residents of the Northwest Territories (NWT) now have the option to display an 'X' in the sex section of driver's licence and identification cards issued by the Department of Infrastructure.

This change helps to ensure services offered by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) are inclusive and respectful of transgender, two-spirit, intersex, and non-binary residents.
