Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — October 23, 2024

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a new Business Licence eService. This new eService allows business owners across the Northwest Territories, particularly those in smaller communities without local licensing bylaws, to easily apply for and renew business licences online.

The Business Licence eService is a major step forward in creating a more business-friendly environment and supporting economic growth across the territory. It is designed to simplify the business licensing process, making it more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly. By reducing administrative tasks, business owners can focus more on their operations and less on paperwork.

While business licences can still be applied for by mail or email, the NWT eService portal is part of the GNWT’s ongoing effort to ensure residents and businesses can access programs and services how they want, where they want, and when they want.

Key benefits of the online Business Licensing eService include:

  • 24/7 Accessibility: Apply for or renew business licences anytime, using a computer or mobile device.
  • Streamlined Process: A simplified application process with fewer steps and clear instructions, saving time.
  • Real-Time Updates: Receive updates on application statuses in real time.
  • Secure Transactions: Robust security measures to protect information.

The GNWT encourages all eligible business owners in the Northwest Territories to use this new eService. Whether you are starting a new venture or renewing an existing license, this program is designed to streamline and expedite this process.

Under the Business Licence Act, the GNWT issues licences to businesses operating outside community boundaries and in communities that do not issue their own business licenses. Visit the NWT eService portal today to take advantage of this service and streamline business operations.
