Call For Applications: Arctic Winter Games International Committee (NWT Director Nominee)

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking an individual to be the Northwest Territories (NWT) nominee to become a Director on the Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC). If you or someone you know has a passion for sport and culture, please consider an application.  

The AWGIC supervises the overall development and implementation of the Arctic Winter Games. To learn more about the AWGIC, visit their website here.  

The deadline to apply is August 27, 2024.

Who can apply

  • Anyone older than 18 years of age
  • Anyone from any community in the NWT (NWT resident)
  • Anyone interested in and supportive of youth sport and the Arctic Winter Games
  • Anyone with experience in the following areas: corporate/business, volunteer sport organization, and multisport games host organization
  • Anyone with the ability to travel to the United States of America, Greenland, Sweden, Norway, and Finland
  • Anyone with the ability to drive (class 5 drivers’ licence) 
  • Anyone with experience in sport, recreation, and culture of the NWT is an asset

Individuals who are not eligible for consideration include

  • GNWT employees
  • Board members or staff of organizations who receive funding for sport, physical activity, or recreation programs from the GNWT’s Department of Municipal and Community Affairs
  • Individuals who do not have a satisfactory criminal record check

Expected commitment

  • The term for this position begins October 2024
  • AWGIC Directors can serve for four years and are eligible for reappointment according to AWGIC bylaws
  • AWGIC Directors attend monthly video conference meetings and three to four meetings per year in future host communities (typically a five-to-seven-day commitment for each trip) as well as attending the Arctic Winter Games every two years (10-day commitment) with travel costs covered
  • AWGIC Directors must be able to commit time and resources to serve as volunteers
