Career Week: Seek Change, Find Direction

News Releases

November 1, 2010 - Career Week kicked off today, and there are many events planned throughout the Northwest Territories to celebrate. This year’s theme is “Seek Change, Find Direction.”

“Planning for your future, making career choices and breaking into the job market can seem overwhelming,” says the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty. “Career Week is a great chance for all residents of the Northwest Territories to learn more about the many career opportunities, programs and services available to them.”

From open houses to workshops to information sessions, there are a variety of career development events taking place. During Career Week, residents are encouraged to visit their local ECE Regional Service Center for a full list of events planned, and to find out about the services they provide. ECE Regional Service Centres are located in Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Inuvik, Norman Wells, and Yellowknife.

One of the highlights of Career Week is the annual Take Our Kids to Work Day which is Wednesday, November 3rd. Grade 9 students across the territory will spend the day at work shadowing their parent or an adult friend. This day provides students with an opportunity to see what happens on a job and at the workplace, providing insight into possible future careers.
