News Releases

May 25, 2011 - The GNWT’s Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) is hosting a Labour Force Development Symposium this Wednesday and Thursday, where it will launch the Northwest Territories Labour Force Development Framework – People, Partnerships, Possibilities.

“We are working with our partners to help people achieve their goals and contribute to a strong Northwest Territories,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Jackson Lafferty. “By making significant investments in skills training and employment development, we ensure that NWT residents can meet the demand of northern employers, therefore maximizing opportunities for our residents.”

The Development Framework is the result of NWT partners discussing common vested interests in how to improve training, skills and overall Northern employment. It is designed to continually improve the labour force to strengthen the North’s economy.

The Symposium provides an opportunity for ECE to meet with key NWT stakeholders to share labour market information linked to programs, services and supports; highlight the connection between skills development and regional economic development activities; and discuss territorial coordination to champion the new Framework.
