Fire Ban Lifted: Fort Simpson and Sambaa Deh Falls Territorial Parks

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — June 7, 2023

The fire ban in effect at the Fort Simpson and Sambaa Deh Falls Territorial Parks has been lifted.

NWT Parks reminds parks users that campfires should only be lit in designated fire pits and must always be kept control.  Keep a bucket of water, sand, and a shovel handy.  Be sure to extinguish your fire before you go to sleep or when you leave the site. Remember that if your fire is too hot to touch, it is too hot to leave.

Use the SOAK, STIR, SOAK method to put out your campfire.

  • Soak: your fire with a lot of water. Make sure to get all the embers – not just the red ones.
  • Stir: the leftover coals, wood, and embers to expose anything that hasn’t been put out.
  • Soak: your fire again.
  • Repeat: until the fire is out.

Information about fire bans and territorial park closures can be found under alerts on the NWT Parks website.
