Fire bans expanded for NWT Parks in South Slave Region

Yellowknife — July 25, 2024

Due to fire danger in the region, fire bans have been put into effect for all NWT Parks in the South Slave region, prohibiting open fires.

The bans, which are in addition to any regional fire bans in place by NWT Fire, are effective immediately until August 7, 2024 for the following NWT Parks:

  • Chan Lake Day Use Area
  • Dory Point Day Use Area
  • Fort Providence Territorial Park
  • Fort Smith Mission Day Use Area
  • Hay River Territorial Park
  • Kakisa River Day Use Area
  • Lady Evelyn Territorial Park
  • Little Buffalo River Crossing Territorial Park
  • Little Buffalo River Falls Territorial Park
  • McNallie Creek Day Use Area
  • Queen Elizabeth Territorial Park
  • Twin Fall Gorge Territorial Park
    • Louise Falls Campground
    • Alexandra Falls Day Use Area
    • Escarpment Creek Group Campground

Camp stoves, enclosed barbeques, and propane-fueled cooking and heating devices are permitted for use in NWT Parks, but must be placed within regulation fire pits and should not emit a flame more than 0.5 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres in height.
