GNWT Adjusts Health and Social Services Fees in Legislation

Public Service Announcement

Yellowknife — February 27, 2025

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is adjusting select fees within the Health and Social Services (HSS) system to reflect inflation and align with broader fiscal sustainability goals outlined in the Restoring Balance strategy.

What You Need to Know:

  • GNWT departments are required to review fees every five years to ensure they remain sustainable and reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
  • The upcoming fee adjustments include services such as professional licensing, vital statistics (e.g., marriage and birth certificates), and public health permits.
  • Fees associated with accessing personal health records under the Health Information Act will not be affected.
  • Most fee adjustments will take effect on April 1, 2025, while professional licensing fees will be implemented on October 1, 2025, in alignment with licensing periods.

The updated fee schedule is available on the Department of Health and Social Services website at www.hss.gov.nt.ca/en/services/fee-rates.
