GNWT announces additional support funding for tourism businesses

News Releases

Yellowknife — September 22, 2021

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is providing additional support funding for tourism operators and tourism related businesses with assistance from the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor).

The Northwest Territories’ (NWT) Tourism Restart Investment Program (TRIP) will provide one-time funding for eligible applicants to support:

  • marketing activities for Canadian (domestic) and international audiences,
  • recruitment, training and capacity building for new and returning employees,
  • adapting or enhancing protocols for tourism activities, and
  • infrastructure upgrades to meet health and safety requirements.

These supports will provide applicants the ability to plan their upgrades and hire assistance as needed. Having the lead time to implement improvements allows operators and businesses to complete the work before they welcome visitors back to the territory.

Funding is available to tourism operators with a valid tourism operator licence (TOL) and tourism-related business in the NWT.  Non-profit organizations meeting either of these requirements are also eligible.

Applicants will be required to prioritize the use of NWT goods, services and construction to support local employment and community economies.

To apply for TRIP, visit www.iti.gov.nt.ca/trip. The deadline for applications is October 20, 2021.

“Tourism is vital to the Northwest Territories. For more than a year, we have identified and invested in relief and recovery programs to ensure that when the time comes, the Northwest Territories tourism industry will be able to rebuild. The Tourism Restart Investment Program continues this relief and recovery process by providing tourism businesses with funding that supports their infrastructure, training and marketing activities as they prepare to welcome back visitors.
